Fall Festival at the Brevard Community Garden Oct 8, 2022


Sept. 30, 2022 (BREVARD, N.C.) - Interested in gardening? Want to know more about the new Brevard

Community Garden? Want to learn new gardening tips and share ideas with fellow gardeners? Don’t

like gardening but just want to enjoy a day outdoors meeting with other community members?


Then come join the City of Brevard at the Fall Festival, held at the Brevard Community Garden on

October 8, 2022 from 10am to 2pm. The garden is located at the corner of Silversteen Drive and

McMinn Avenue. There will be activities for children, fall/winter gardening tips, soil testing kits, a plant

and seed exchange, bat and birdhouse making demonstrations, music and refreshments. The live music

will be provided by Nikki Talley.


Everyone is invited. Attendees don’t need to be currently involved with the garden to participate. This

will also be a great opportunity to really learn about the community garden and find out how in the

spring you can apply to have a garden plot of your own.


The Brevard Community Garden was created last spring by the City of Brevard after receiving grant

funding for from Blue Zones Project Brevard. This fall the garden has been expanded with more raised

beds as well as tables, benches, and a bike rack thanks to a grant that the City from AARP. The AARP

grant also provided funding to help hold this community celebration.


“A community garden is a wonderful space where people can work outdoors in the fresh air growing

their own food as well as work in companionship with others,” said Mayor Maureen Copeloff. It’s a

space to relax and get to know your neighbors. We’re not just building gardens we are building

community.”


The fall festival is being sponsored by AARP Mountain Region, Blue Zones Project Brevard, The

Cooperative Extension Service and the City of Brevard.
