Brevard Police Department Announces 

Appointment of Police Captains



For Immediate Release                           


(Brevard, NC – August 22, 2022)



The City of Brevard and the Brevard Police Department are pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Woodson and Daniel Godman to the rank of Captain effective on today’s date.


Chief C. Thomas Jordan stated:


“As part of our restructuring of the Brevard Police Department, it was important to find people who had the right skillset, drive, and experience to serve as Captains on the Brevard Police Department.  After a comprehensive process with an excellent pool of candidates, Steve Woodson and Daniel Godman were selected as the two new Captains.  I am very pleased to have them both serving on our leadership team.  Their presence will allow the Brevard Police Department to provide higher levels of customer service to the community we serve.”


Captain Steve Woodson will serve as the Commander of the Patrol Operations Division.  Captain Woodson has been in law enforcement since 1978 and has a variety experience as a school resource officer, patrol officer, and detective.  Captain Woodson has been serving with the Brevard Police Department since 2001 and previously served with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, Weaverville Police Department, Mars Hill College Police, and as the Brevard College Director of Public Safety.  Captain Woodson is a lifelong resident of the Brevard area seeks to continue supporting the community in his new role.


Captain Daniel Godman will serve as the Commander of the Investigations and Field Support Division.   Captain Godman has been in law enforcement since 2000 and has served in a variety of assignments as a patrol officer, K9-handler and supervisor, detective and lead training instructor for the agency.  Captain Godman has been serving with the Brevard Police Department since 2009 and previously served with the Saluda Police Department and the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.  Captain Godman served his country honorably in the Marine Corps prior to entering law enforcement.  He is a lifelong resident of the area and looks to enhance relations by increasing the level of service provided to the community.  


Interim City Manager Larry Faison stated:


These dual promotions exemplify the professionalism and capacity of the Brevard Police Department which under the very capable leadership of Chief Jordan will sustain the responsive character of public safety that our community relies upon.. 


A ceremony recognizing the appointment of Captain Woodson and Captain Godman will occur at a later date.
