[ARCHIVED] City Adopts New Sign Ordinance

Stack of Building Plans

The decision of Reed v. Town of Gilbert invalidated some distinctions based on the message content of signs, requiring adjustments to many local ordinances and state statutes across the country, including Brevard's. The decision, with its four separate concurring opinions, also left open several legal questions. The City's Planning Department and Planning Board crafted a new content-neutral sign ordinance in order to bring the City's UDO into compliance with the Reed decision. This new sign ordinance was adopted and made effective by City Council on Monday, December 7, 2020.
