Do you know how many parking spaces are downtown? Or how much space it takes to house all those spaces?
Within a 1/4 mile radius of the Main/Broad intersection of downtown Brevard, there are 2,243 parking spaces. Assuming each space is 9'x18' that equals 363,366 square feet or 8.34 acres of parking spaces. But as we all know, parking lots are more than just the actual spaces. When you add the drive aisles and the entrances/exits, the area dedicated to parking swells to 1,001,626 square feet, or 22.99 acres.
The area of a circle with a quarter-mile radius is 5,472,100 square feet, which means that 18.3% of the surface area of our little downtown is dedicated to parking facilities.
