Responsibilities
The Planning and Zoning Department is responsible for a variety of tasks within the City of Brevard and its extraterritorial jurisdiction. These include land development review, zoning and subdivision permission, floodplain development, code enforcement, and all long-range land use and transportation planning.
The Planning Department reviews development projects to assure that they are in compliance with adopted ordinances, codes, and regulations and maintains policy documents such as the Comprehensive Plan, Pedestrian Plan, Official Zoning Map, and the Powell Bill Map.
NOTE: The City does not handle permits or inspections for North Carolina Building Code. The Transylvania County Building Permitting and Enforcement Department fills this role for the entire county, including inside the corporate limits of Brevard and Rosman.
