Riding is a great way to travel around Brevard, whether to run errands, to get to work, or just for some fun outdoors! Anytime you head out by bike, keep in mind these five rules of the road from the League of American Bicyclists, and you’ll be prepared for a safe and fun trip, no matter where you’re riding.
Follow The Law: You have the same responsibilities and rights as drivers. Obey traffic signals and stop signs. Ride with traffic, using the rightmost lane in the direction you’re going.
Be Predictable: Make your intentions clear to everyone on the road. Signal turns and check behind you before turning.
Be Conspicuous: Ride where people can see you and wear bright clothing. Use lights when visibility is poor.
Think Ahead: Anticipate what drivers, pedestrians, and other cyclists will do next. Cross railroad tracks at right angles.
Ride Ready: Check that your tires are inflated, your brakes are working, your chain runs smooth, and quick release levers are closed. Carry tools and always wear a helmet.
